Composing with Color

It may seem like a simple concept, but sometimes what makes the photo interesting is simply the colors. Let's face it, there's nothing interesting about a red tennis ball (photo left), but the pop of color is what makes it stand out. Today's simple tip is a challenge to begin looking at color in your photos. We are trained to normally just take assumptions to the color in our world. Let's begin to see color as part of our compositions. Sometimes, color is the "subject" of our photos.
In addition, it may be the contrast of colors against each other. Taking notice of color and how it affects your subject is also important. A fun and simple way to start noticing color, is to give yourself a photo assignment, such as photographing only things of a specific color. This kind of exercise allows your mind to separate the specific color from what it normally sees. Try this one out, I'm sure you'll find it fun and revealing!
