Get Closer

Photographer Robert Capa was once quoted in saying, "If your pictures are not good enough, then you are not close enough." This was quite a statement by someone who worked as a war photographer. However, the words ring very true for all of us. Sometimes a better photo is simply found by moving closer to your subject. One of the benefits of moving closer, in terms of composition, is that it allows you to fill the frame with your subject and eliminate the possibilities of other distractions in the frame. It seems to be a simple tip, but implementing it is not always as obvious. For someone like Robert Capa, moving closer could mean the end of his life. However, Mr. Capa was very passionate about covering his assignments, and by moving closer, many of his images brought him the distinction of being considered one of the most famous war photographers of the 20th century.
So, next time you are taking photos of a flower, a family member, or anything of interest, try to get closer and see how this tip can pay off for better images.
